Most pre-wedding shoot location lists for Chandigarh are written by people who have never carried a camera to any of these places. This one is not. These are the spots we work at, in the order we actually suggest them to couples, with the honest version of what each one is like on a normal weekend morning.
One thing worth saying before the list: the location matters less than most couples expect. Light, time of day and how comfortable the two of you are in front of a camera will decide how the photographs look far more than the backdrop will. A good photographer can make a quiet corner of a government garden look better than a famous resort. Pick a place you will enjoy spending four hours at, not the place with the most Instagram tags.

Free Locations Inside Chandigarh
Public spaces, no shoot fee, but all of them come with the same trade-off: other people. Plan these early in the morning, on a weekday if your dates allow it.
Sukhna Lake

The obvious one, and still a good one. The promenade, the water and the morning light together give you the frames most couples picture when they imagine a Chandigarh pre-wedding. Go at sunrise. By mid-morning the walking crowd builds up and you spend more time waiting for a clear frame than shooting. Winter mornings here are misty and the light is beautiful; summer afternoons are flat and harsh.
Rock Garden

Nek Chand’s mosaic walls, the waterfall and the narrow passages are unlike anything else in the region, and they photograph very well. The constraints are real though — it is a ticketed public attraction, it gets genuinely crowded, and the passages are narrow, which limits where a photographer can stand and how much you can move. Best treated as one stop in a half-day shoot rather than the whole shoot.
Leisure Valley

Long open stretches of garden, wide lawns and good tree cover. There is room to walk, which means we can shoot you moving naturally instead of standing and posing. It is also one of the easier places to find a quiet pocket away from people, simply because it is large.
Terraced Garden and Budda Garden

Less talked about than Sukhna or Rock Garden, which is exactly why they work. Fewer people, clean green backgrounds, and in the flowering season the color does half the work for you. If you want something that looks like Chandigarh but has not appeared in every other couple’s album, start here.
The Sector 17 Underpass

A complete change of mood from the gardens — concrete lines, strong shadows, a modern graphic look. Useful for breaking up a shoot that is otherwise all greenery, and it works well for the cinematic side of the film. It is a working public underpass, so this is a short, focused stop, not an hour-long session.
Just Outside the City
Within a comfortable drive, and worth the travel when you want scale or a different landscape.
Pinjore Gardens
Terraced Mughal gardens with fountains, arches and long symmetrical lines — the kind of architecture that gives a frame instant depth. Roughly an hour from Chandigarh. It is a ticketed monument with its own rules on photography, so permission and timing have to be sorted in advance rather than on the morning itself.
Morni Hills

The closest proper hill landscape to Chandigarh — viewpoints, winding roads and a lake, without committing to a full hill-station trip. Good when you want elevation and open sky in the photographs but only have one day. The road up is narrow, so travel time is longer than the distance suggests.
Paid and Private Locations
You are paying for one thing above all: not being watched. For many couples that single factor changes the shoot more than the backdrop does.
Oberoi Sukhvilas

A luxury resort property near Chandigarh with its own grounds, architecture and landscaping. Shooting here means a location fee and the property’s own rules, but you get space that belongs to you for those hours — no onlookers, no waiting for a frame to clear, and staff who are used to shoots happening. If the budget allows it, this is the smoothest shoot day of any option on this page.
Private Villas and Homestays

A rented villa, farmhouse or homestay for the day is the most underrated option around Chandigarh. It costs less than a resort, you get complete privacy, and you can change outfits comfortably instead of in a car. Interiors, a lawn, a terrace and good natural light in one place covers a surprising amount of variety. We are happy to suggest the kind of property that works and what to check before booking one.
Hill Locations for a Two-Day Shoot
Two to four hours from Chandigarh. These need an overnight stay to be worth it — a same-day return means you arrive tired and lose the best light to the drive.
Kasauli

Close enough to reach in the morning, high enough to feel like a different place. Pine forest, old colonial buildings and quiet lanes. Mist is common and unpredictable — sometimes it gives you the best frame of the shoot, sometimes it takes the view away entirely.
Barog

Smaller and far less crowded than Kasauli, with deodar forest and a stillness that comes through in the photographs. One of our favorite recommendations for couples who want hills without other tourists in the background.
Chail
Thick forest, open grounds and wide mountain views. Higher and quieter than Kasauli, with a longer drive to match. Worth it if you have two days and want the landscape to be the main character.
Shimla and Around

The views are the best on this list and so are the crowds. Shimla works when you move away from the Mall Road stretch and shoot in the surrounding areas instead. Plan the route properly or you will spend the trip in traffic rather than in front of the camera.
Free or Paid? The Honest Answer
This is the question couples ask us most often, so here is the straight version.

Free locations are free, but never empty
Every public location on this page has the same problem: people. Onlookers gather, frames take longer to get, and there is nowhere comfortable to change outfits. You can manage all of it by starting at sunrise and shooting on a weekday, and plenty of our best work has come out of exactly that. But it does mean the shoot runs on the location’s terms, not yours.
A paid location buys you privacy, and privacy shows
At a resort or a villa booked for the day, nobody is watching. Couples relax within the first twenty minutes instead of the first two hours, and relaxed couples photograph better — that difference is visible in the final images. You also get outfit changes without a bathroom queue, and a day that runs to your schedule. For most couples, this is the single upgrade that makes the biggest difference to the result.
What we usually suggest: one of each
A good half-day plan is one public location early in the morning, when it is still quiet, and then a private location for the rest of the day. You get the recognizable Chandigarh backdrops and the relaxed, unhurried portraits, without either part of the day being compromised.
A Location We No Longer Recommend
Burj Kotia

It appears on most Chandigarh pre-wedding location lists, so couples ask us about it regularly. We have shot there and we do not suggest it any more. It has become genuinely crowded, and a crowded location is the one thing that reliably ruins a pre-wedding shoot — you lose time, you lose privacy, and the couple never fully settles in front of the camera. If someone has recommended it to you, this is our honest view, and we would rather tell you now than on the morning of the shoot.
Planning the Day
Start earlier than feels reasonable
The first hour after sunrise and the last hour before sunset carry the shoot. Midday light in and around Chandigarh is harsh for most of the year and flattens everything. We plan shoots around those two windows, with the slower middle of the day used for travel, outfit changes or indoor frames.
Sort permissions before the date, not on the day
Ticketed gardens, monuments and private properties each have their own rules on professional shoots, tripods and drones, and these change. Securing permission at the chosen location is the couple’s responsibility, as set out in our booking terms, but we will tell you exactly what to ask for and we follow each location’s rules on the day.
October to March is the window

Clear light, comfortable temperatures and gardens at their best. Summer shoots mean heat and harsh light; monsoon is unpredictable, though an overcast sky can give lovely soft light if the rain holds off. If your wedding is in peak season, book the pre-wedding well ahead — those dates fill up first.
Two or three outfits, no more
Each change costs about forty minutes once you include travel and touch-ups. Couples who plan four or five outfits usually end up rushing the last two. Fewer changes, more time actually shooting, is the better trade.
Common Questions
Which is the best pre-wedding shoot location in Chandigarh?
There is no single best one, and any list that claims otherwise is guessing. Sukhna Lake at sunrise is the classic choice and still works. Leisure Valley and the Terraced Garden are quieter. For a shoot where nobody is watching, a resort such as Oberoi Sukhvilas or a private villa booked for the day is the better answer. Tell us the mood you want and we will match a location to it rather than the other way round.
Are there free locations for a pre-wedding shoot in Chandigarh?
Yes — Sukhna Lake, Leisure Valley, the Terraced Garden, Budda Garden and the Sector 17 underpass are all public spaces with no shoot fee, though ticketed attractions like Rock Garden and Pinjore charge entry. The real cost of a free location is crowds and no private space to change outfits. Starting at sunrise on a weekday solves most of it.
How many locations can we cover in one day?
Two comfortably, three if they are close together and the day is planned tightly. More than that and the shoot turns into a drive with occasional photographs. The number of locations included is set out in your package, and additional locations can be added for an extra charge.
Do you travel to the hills for a pre-wedding shoot?

Regularly — Kasauli, Barog, Chail and the Shimla side, as well as destinations further afield. Travel charges apply beyond 100 km from Chandigarh, and for outstation shoots the travel and stay of the crew are arranged by the couple. Hill shoots are best planned over two days so the drive does not eat the good light.
Who arranges permission at the location?
Securing permission from the venue, garden authority or property owner is the couple’s responsibility, and it is written into our booking terms. We will tell you precisely what to ask for at each location, and on the day we work within whatever rules that location sets on cameras, lighting and drones.
When is the best season for a pre-wedding shoot near Chandigarh?
October to March. The light is clear, the weather is comfortable for long outdoor hours, and the gardens are at their best. This is also peak wedding season in the region, so dates go early — book well ahead if your shoot falls in that window.
What do we get after the shoot, and when?
Preview images within one to two days, reels and shorts within seven to ten days, and the edited photographs along with your cinematic film within seven to fifteen days of the shoot. Pre-wedding shoots are captured in RAW, which gives us full control over color and light in the edit.
